 New SUV based Audi H-Tron Quattro concept features next generation of alternative drive technologies and it is planned to go into the production line-up by 2020. The all new H-Tron model is promoted as a production ready hydrogen fuel cell SUV which is planned to use the contemporary platform structure, electric drivetrain architecture and the battery technology from the previous e-torn Quattro series.

All new H-Tron Quattro concept uses world’s best hydrogen refuelling system which takes only four minutes for refuelling and it lasts very long.

A single refuel lasts 373 miles with a full hydrogen tank and it claims the benchmark zero to 62 miles per hour time of just over six seconds which is even remarkable. Top speed has been restricted to 124 miles per hour and the ability to run on the front wheels at urban speeds.

Fifth generation fuel cell stack

Audi is presenting its fifth generation of H-Tron fuel cell stacks in the new H-Tron Quattro 2020. New fuel cell stack is a hydrogen powered system based on three carbon fibre reinforced plastic tanks.

These tanks are designed to bear the 700bar pressure, fitted beneath the rear seats and the boot floor. The all new fuel cell package consists of 330 individual cells to develop a nominal 148bhp of power and 110KW electricity.

Fuel cell charging cycle

This fuel cell operates at between 220 volts and 280 volts, however the battery pack can run bat between 220 volts to 480 volts. A direct current converter in the engine compartment used to equalise the difference between both figures. Electric motor at front axles generates 90kW or 121bhp of power and the motor at the rear axles generates 140kW or 188bhp.
